Kham then and now. A photoblog showing how eastern Tibet looked in the 1920s and how the same places and people look now. Based on the explorations of botanist Joseph Rock.
I'm surprised and moved by your fantastic pictures and your footstep in the beautiful southwest of China. You follow Joseph Rock who lived in there for about 27 years. For most Chinese they didn't know this great people who helped to save the culture and language there.Because the government just told us the invasion of the foreigners. What a great work Rock and you have done.Thank you! Will you come again? Or you can come to Beijing to my university to give a lecture.
Dr Joseph Rock was an Austrian-American botanist who explored the Tibetan borderlands of Sichuan and Yunnan in the 1920s and 30s. This is about my travels to revisit the places he described in the National Geographic magazine. Any questions? contact me at beijingweek AT gmail

Thanks Steven,
Hope to be back in Yunnan in late 2009, but not Beijing, unfortunately.
Why don't you come to Beijing for a visit?
And what are you most interested in there, the culture, people or the scenery?
what languages do they speak there? Or what languages would one need to know to live there?
